Tyntesfield Audit: July 2008

A good turn out on July 10th, after a weekend of very heavy rain was rewarded with finding 81 species, 15 new to Tyntesfield. This was an excellent number for July and emphasises the need to carry out the audits at times appropriate to the weather conditions. We noticed very few species during a social walk around the estate on the 20th July.

The most exciting find was
Melanophyllum eyrei, a truly rare species and the only fungus in the UK to have green gills (see photo). The most common genus was Conocybe, often dismissed as “little brown jobs”, but several species were identified by Roy. Other interesting species were Boletus luridus, Entoloma longistriatum, Agaricus augustus, Mycena acicula,. We also found Suillus granulatus at a place close to the site where S. collinitus occurred in 2006/7.

Melanophyllum eyrei: found in Plantation. This was the second time this species had been found on the Estate. In 2007 we found it in Sidelands Wood.
